Who doesn’t want a bright, beautiful smile with white teeth?

Over the years, and due to the consumption of staining products such as tea, coffee, red wine, and tobacco, the color of teeth can change from white to yellow or brown. Fortunately, this process is completely reversible, and teeth whitening can restore brightness to your smile.

At-home teeth whitening is performed by wearing custom-made trays designed specifically for your teeth, into which a whitening gel is applied.

It is important to note that teeth whitening only works on natural teeth. Whitening products have no effect on white fillings, crowns, veneers, or bridges.

Teeth whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, nor for children under the age of 16. During the treatment period, it is essential to avoid all staining foods and beverages such as tea and red wine—and especially tobacco. When combined with peroxide (the active ingredient in whitening gel), tobacco significantly increases carcinogenic risks.  

The Procedure

First, the dentist ensures that you are in good oral health:

• No cavities, as whitening gel can pass through cavities and irritate the dental pulp, potentially causing pulpitis and requiring a root canal treatment
• No excessive tooth sensitivity

Next, the dentist takes impressions of your dental arches to create custom whitening trays. These trays are provided to the patient at a subsequent visit, along with the whitening gel kit. During this appointment, the dentist explains the procedure and provides detailed instructions for use.
